Our Purpose

Dark Forest Theatre is committed to nurturing both emerging and established talent within Northern Ireland’s theatre industry. We believe that every artist deserves the space, freedom, and encouragement to grow within their craft, and we are proud to provide opportunities that make this possible. Through open audition call-outs and inclusive creative processes, we ensure that artists’ voices are not only heard but valued in every production.

Our work is always artist-led and artist-focused. We are dedicated to fostering environments where creativity can flourish, while also placing the mental and physical well-being of our community at the heart of everything we do. At Dark Forest Theatre, we uphold the highest professional standards and ask the same of those who join us: to approach both the work and one another with respect, integrity, and care. We also host The Artist at Joy — a series of free professional workshops designed to inspire, guide, and support artists at every stage of their journey. These workshops aim to reignite a love for performance while offering practical tools for professional and personal growth.

Beyond the stage, we are deeply committed to giving back. A portion of our revenue from each production is donated to charitable causes, allowing us to extend our values of compassion and community into the wider world. We have proudly supported and partnered with The Rainbow Project, Friends of Shankill Graveyard, Building Bridges Community Theatre, The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, and Cara-Friend.

Engagement
Dark Forest Theatre has proudly collaborated with a wide range of organisations, venues, and funding bodies. Our productions have been staged at Cultúrlann, The Grand Opera House, Sanctuary Theatre, The MAC, and Smock Alley, and we have been supported in our work by ABC Council, Belfast City Council, The National Lottery, and The Heritage Fund.

Artist Support
Dark Forest Theatre is committed to supporting artists in meaningful and lasting ways. We uphold a policy of not recasting actors to originate new roles and holding open auditions for our productions, ensuring fairness and allowing all equal opportunity. In addition, we regularly commission photographers and visual artists to collaborate with us, helping to shape and enrich our artistic vision.

Charitable Work
Dark Forest Theatre is deeply committed to supporting and giving back to our community. We proudly partner with and donate to local charities, having worked with The Rainbow Project, The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust, and Cara-Friend, with plans to collaborate with Women’s Aid in 2026 on our upcoming production 'I, She, Medusa'
Partnership

Dark Forest Theatre was founded with a vision to engage, explore, and create meaningful connections within the arts. We welcome conversations with artists, theatre companies, and organisations, and remain committed to offering support, guidance, and collaboration wherever possible.
